Privacy policy

Yap is built so your voice stays on your Mac. This page explains the little that does leave it, what we keep, and why.
Who we are
Yap is made by Goose Farm Ventures Pty Ltd (ABN 62 703 431 136), an Australian company. On this page, “we” and “us” mean Goose Farm Ventures.
Questions about your privacy? Email support@yapforever.com.
What stays on your Mac
When you hold Right Option and speak, Apple’s on-device speech recognition turns your voice into text. An AI model built into Yap then tidies the text, also on your Mac, and Yap pastes it where you’re typing.
Your audio, the transcript and the tidied text are never sent to us or anyone else. Yap doesn’t save your audio or keep a history of what you’ve said.
To paste, Yap puts the text on your Mac’s clipboard for a moment, then puts back what was there before. Apps that watch the clipboard, such as clipboard managers, may see it in that moment.
Yap keeps its settings, your licence and the date your trial started on your Mac.
Apple’s speech model
The first time you set up Yap, macOS downloads Apple’s speech recognition model from Apple. This happens once per Mac. That download is between your Mac and Apple, under Apple’s terms and Apple’s privacy policy, not ours.
What Yap sends to us
Yap connects to yapforever.com for two things only.
Activating and deactivating your licence
When you enter your licence key, or choose Deactivate This Mac…, Yap sends us your key and a device ID.
The device ID is a one-way code (a SHA-256 hash) made from your Mac’s hardware ID. It’s the same every time for that Mac, so we can count your Macs, but the hardware ID itself is never sent.
We use these to check your key, keep track of the Macs it’s activated on, and free a place when you deactivate one.
Checking for updates
Once a day, Yap checks yapforever.com for a new version. Each check tells us which version of Yap you’re running, and nothing else about you or your Mac.
Like any connection to a website, these requests come from your IP address, which Cloudflare processes to deliver and protect our service. We don’t store IP addresses in our licence records.
What we keep, and why
When you buy Yap, our licence server stores:
- your email address
- the Stripe Checkout Session ID for your purchase
- the date we issued your licence, and the date of any refund
- your licence key and the number of Macs it covers.
For each Mac you activate, it also stores that Mac’s device ID (the hash described above) and the date you activated it. Choosing Deactivate This Mac… removes that Mac from our records.
We use this to send your key and re-send it if you lose it, to keep to the 3-Mac limit, and to handle refunds and support. That’s all. We don’t sell your information and we don’t use it for advertising.
The licence database is hosted on Cloudflare.
Buying Yap
Payments go through Stripe, using Stripe Managed Payments. You pay on Stripe’s checkout page and we never see your card details.
With Managed Payments, Stripe (through its Link service) may act as the seller of record for your payment. Stripe collects what it needs to take your payment, work out tax and prevent fraud, and handles it under Stripe’s privacy policy.
Stripe passes us your email address and a reference for your purchase, the Checkout Session ID, so we can issue your licence. We can also see the details of your payment in our Stripe account.
We email your licence key through Resend, when you buy and again if you ask us to re-send it. Resend handles your email address and the message to deliver it.
We only email you about your licence and when you ask us for help. We won’t add you to a mailing list.
If you email us, we’ll have your email address and whatever you write, and we’ll use them to help you.
Our website
yapforever.com is hosted on Cloudflare. It has no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts or fonts.
Like any web host, Cloudflare processes visitors’ IP addresses to serve the site and protect it from attacks.
Who else handles your information
We use a few services to run Yap. Each gets only what it needs to do its job:
- Stripe, for payments, tax and fraud prevention
- Resend, for sending licence emails
- Cloudflare, for hosting our website, licence server and update checks, and forwarding email to our support inbox
- Google, which hosts our support inbox
We don’t share your information with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Where it’s stored
We’re in Australia, but the services above are run from overseas. They may store or process your information in other countries, including the United States.
How long we keep it
We keep your licence record while your licence is in use, so we can re-send your key and help you. After a refund, we keep it for 7 years, because Australian law requires us to keep financial records that long, and then delete it.
We keep support emails while they help us help you, and delete them when you ask, unless the law requires us to keep them.
Your choices
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@yapforever.com from the address you bought with.
If we delete your licence record, we can no longer re-send your key or reset your Macs.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. If you live elsewhere, you may have rights under your local law too.
Children
Yap isn’t made for children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll say so clearly here.
